A 15-year-old from Kičevo was detained after colliding with a cyclist while riding a moped without a driving licence, police said. The cyclist was seriously injured and taken to the local hospital.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, "On 18.08.2026 at 18:10, on Vlaški pat street in Kičevo, police officers from the Kičevo Police Station detained a 15-year-old from Kičevo. Previously, he was operating a moped with Kičevo registration plates without having passed the appropriate driving test and struck a bicycle ridden by A.A.(68) from the Kičevo village of Crvevci, who sustained serious bodily injuries, as certified at the General Hospital in Kičevo. After full documentation of the incident, a criminal complaint will be filed against him under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code – 'reckless operation of a motor vehicle'".
The injured cyclist, identified by initials A.A. and 68 years old, was examined at the General Hospital in Kičevo where doctors recorded severe injuries. Authorities did not provide further medical details publicly.
Police say the juvenile was operating the moped without having passed the required driving exam; the vehicle carried Kičevo registration plates. The Ministry of Internal Affairs statement indicates formal charges will follow once investigators complete their documentation of the case.
Under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code, the offence cited concerns reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Because the suspect is a minor, procedures will follow legal rules on juvenile offenders as the case moves forward.
Local police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision and have not announced whether witnesses or additional evidence have been secured.
