25th anniversary of the deaths of eight army reservists at Ljubotenski Bachila
A delegation from the General Staff and Ministry of Defense will lay flowers to honor those killed in the 2001 conflict.
Today, 10 August 2026, marks 25 years since a deadly incident near the Ljubotenski Bachila area in which eight members of the Army reserve force lost their lives.
On 10 August 2001, a military cargo vehicle travelling toward the Ljubotenski Bachila area struck a mine, and eight reservists were killed: Tome Badarovski, Goce Chankulovski, Branko Janev, Tomislav Nastevski, Marjancho Boshkovski, Ivica Zlatevski, Tome Dimovski and Rade Jankovski.
The same day’s remembrance also honors Aco Angelovski, who was killed in 2000 in Aračinovo during an armed attack on a police patrol.
Commemoration by defence institutions
A delegation from the General Staff of the Army and the Ministry of Defense, led by the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, will lay flowers today at the site and other monuments dedicated to the fallen.
The General Staff said the delegation will place wreaths at several memorials devoted to those who fell, and that the activities are part of marking the memory of reserve members who lost their lives in the 2001 conflict.
