25 open‑space fires in 24 hours across North Macedonia; active blazes in Gorno Lisiche and near Kriva Palanka
Two blazes remain active — one in the Gorno Lisiche neighbourhood and another near Kriva Palanka; most of the 25 fires were extinguished.
In the past 24 hours authorities in North Macedonia recorded 25 open‑space fires; two remain active, one has been brought under control and 22 have been fully extinguished, the Center for Crisis Management (CCM) reported.
The largest ongoing incidents are a blaze in Gorno Lisiche, Municipality of Aerodrom, where low vegetation, trees and corn are burning, and a fire at the exit of Kriva Palanka that has reached a landfill.
A separate fire above the village of Zelenikovo, in the eponymous municipality, was placed under control after crews fought flames in forest and low vegetation.
Widespread interventions, mostly around Skopje
Firefighters intervened at multiple locations across the Skopje region during the last 24 hours. Fires were registered and extinguished in Gazi Baba, Gjorche Petrov, Sopište, Arachinovo, Studeničani and Karpoš.
Crews also responded to blazes in Novaci, Dolneni, Prilep, Chaska, Veles, Rosoman, Struga, Lipkovo, Vrapčište, Zhelino, Gostivar and Delčevo. Most incidents involved low vegetation, while some locations burned forest, trees, waste and landfill areas.
The CCM said the situation with open‑space fires is being continuously monitored and that responsible services remain ready to intervene as conditions evolve. Citizens were urged to exercise extra caution in nature and avoid open flames because of high temperatures and an increased risk of fire spread. Two fires are still burning — emergency services remain on site.
