25 drivers detained in 24 hours during nationwide traffic checks
Operation uncovered 25 detentions, 13 DUI cases, a fatal crash in Gostivar and 871 e-scooter violations recorded last month

Police detained 25 drivers during traffic checks carried out over the past 24 hours, authorities reported. The operation also uncovered underage motorists who had taken to the wheel without holding a driving licence, and 13 people were cited for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Fatal crash in Gostivar and multiple serious injuries
During the same period a fatal traffic accident was recorded: a 59-year-old man from Gostivar died after his car left the roadway and struck a concrete wall. In three separate collisions that day three people sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.
The Ministry of Interior said the intensified road-safety checks also targeted drivers of lightweight electric vehicles. Last month, 17 electric scooters were confiscated and police logged 871 violations related to such vehicles, most of them for not wearing a helmet.
Enforcement statistics show the largest number of offences were recorded in the jurisdiction of the Regional Police Department Bitola (290 violations). The Mobile Unit for Road Traffic Safety registered 167 violations, Regional Police Department Ohrid recorded 125, Regional Police Department Strumica 113, while the remaining offences were noted across other police sectors.
The Ministry of Interior stated it will continue enhanced traffic controls and appealed to users of light electric vehicles to wear protective helmets, to respect traffic rules and regulations, and to travel on surfaces intended for their safe participation in traffic.
