49 municipal vehicles for Skopje and ten municipalities

On 3 September 2026, authorities presented 49 new municipal service vehicles intended for Skopje and ten municipalities: Kumanovo, Prilep, Strumica, Shtip, Ohrid, Tetovo, Negotino, Kicevo, Debar and Veles. The fleet — funded with EUR 4.2 million through the World Bank — includes 19 multifunction trucks of various types, nine cisterns and 21 multifunction street‑cleaning vehicles.

The handover event took place in Skopje and was attended by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski, a number of mayors and representatives of the World Bank.

Prime Minister Mickoski said: "This project is for a better environment, greater hygiene in our municipalities which receive new tools to deal with waste. I call for both social and civic responsibility because we must all be equally responsible towards the environment."

Funding and local contributions

The vehicles were procured with EUR 4.2 million in World Bank financing and are intended to strengthen local capacities for waste collection and street maintenance. According to municipal plans announced at the presentation, the vehicles will be distributed among the listed municipalities to support routine cleaning and seasonal needs.

Orce Gjorgjievski, president of the Association of Units of Local Self‑Government (ZELS) and mayor of Skopje, announced that the City of Skopje will soon present an additional five trucks it procured and noted that the deadline for filing complaints in the procurement procedure for 3,200 containers for Skopje is coming to an end.

Officials said the new equipment is expected to improve hygiene standards and the overall urban environment, while urging citizens to join in maintaining cleanliness. The presentation on 3 September 2026 marks the start of the vehicles' deployment to municipal services.
