AHV seizes around two tonnes of unsafe meat in Radovish; 50 kg confiscated in Pepelishte

The Food and Veterinary Agency (AHV) reported that inspectors seized roughly two tonnes of unsafe meat and meat preparations from retail outlets in Radovish, while an additional 50 kilograms were confiscated from a private producer in the village of Pepelishte.

Authorities: products lacked provenance and were handled in unhygienic conditions

Extraordinary inspections carried out yesterday targeted small meat retailers and processing sites in the Radovish area, where teams discovered both fresh and frozen meat deemed unsafe. According to the AHV, the seized quantities will be disposed of at the Drisla landfill in Skopje.

In Pepelishte, near Negotino, inspectors found an individual producing smoked meat products and chvarci without authorization from the Agency and marketing them via social media. Officials confiscated 50 kilograms of products, including pechenica, kulen and dimena slanina.

The Agency said the items lacked declarations of origin and had been stored and processed in unsuitable, unhygienic conditions. AHV warned that such production and storage practices pose a serious risk to food safety and consumer health.

Inspectors said extraordinary controls will continue across facilities that produce and sell meat and meat products, with the stated aim of detecting illegal production and preventing the sale of unsafe food.
