FVA: 202 liters/kilograms of ice cream and ice destroyed; 45 fines worth 19,430 euros
FVA carried out 560 inspections over 2 months, issued 45 fines and 140 non-conformity orders.
The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) reported that 202 liters/kilograms of ice cream and ice were destroyed after being deemed unsafe, and 45 monetary fines were issued totaling 19,430 euros.
The penalties followed 560 unannounced inspection checks carried out over a period of 2 months in facilities that produce ice cream and ice, as well as in catering establishments that make these products for their own use and place them on the market. Inspectors also issued 140 orders finding non-conformities.
Findings from the inspections
According to the Agency, the controls showed several recurring problems: 17 operators had not been registered as food business operators with the Food and Veterinary Agency, and 64 operators had failed to perform laboratory analyses of the ice cream/ice they produced.
Inspectors also identified improper product labeling at 20 operators, and found that three businesses purchased ice from an unregistered supplier.
The Agency said the measures — destruction of unsafe product, fines and administrative orders — were taken to protect public health and to force compliance with food safety rules.
