Battery explodes in backpack while cycling in Juksen — 45-year-old seriously injured
Man airlifted to specialized clinic; 9-year-old child sustained minor injuries.

A man from the German state of Thuringia suffered serious injuries after the battery he was carrying in a backpack suddenly exploded while he was riding a bicycle, and a 9-year-old child was with him.
The 45-year-old man was seriously injured and was airlifted by an emergency medical helicopter to a specialized clinic in Halle, while the child sustained minor injuries.
Eyewitnesses say the man’s clothing immediately caught fire after the explosion. Local residents were the first to act to extinguish the flames, using buckets of water until professional help arrived.
Ambulances and extent of the damage
Firefighters and rescue teams arrived quickly at the scene, and a rescue helicopter was used to transport the victim to the hospital. Debris thrown by the explosion also ignited a nearby living hedge and part of the meadow.
"The 45-year-old man sustained very severe injuries to his back and the left side of his body, which is why he was transported by an emergency medical helicopter to a specialized clinic in Halle. The child sustained minor injuries," said police spokeswoman Ana-Katarin Zaifert.
It is not yet known what caused the battery to explode. The criminal investigation police in Zul have opened an investigation into the case.
