Albania opens tender to move high-voltage lines on routes toward North Macedonia
Tender covers relocation of 110 kV overhead lines on Corridor 8 and other roads; estimated contract value 1.29 billion lek, bids due 2 November 2026.
The Albanian Road Administration has launched a tender worth about €14 million to move high-voltage power lines that overlap with the routes of Corridor 8 and other national roads.
According to the tender documents, the estimated contract value is around 1.29 billion Albanian lek excluding VAT, and the work will be financed from the state budget. The contract completion period is 48 months, and bids may be submitted until 2 November 2026.
Scope and reason for the works
The project covers relocation and reconstruction of 110-kilovolt overhead lines whose current alignments conflict with planned road corridors. The interventions are intended to allow road projects to continue while preserving the safety and operation of the electricity transmission network.
Part of the works specifically concerns Corridor 8, including the Librazhd–Prenjas section that leads toward the North Macedonian border. In certain locations new stretches of overhead lines will need to be built, with new poles, foundations, conductors and protection and grounding systems.
On the Librazhd–Prenjas stretch the need for intervention is also linked to geological problems in the Dragostunja area, where landslides have been recorded previously.
Execution of the works will require coordination with the Albanian transmission system operator and with the electricity distribution operator so that interventions are carried out without major disruptions to supply and power transmission.
