Aleksandar Dimitrov resigns as Bulgaria head coach
Dimitrov stepped down after poor Nations League results, including a 1–2 loss to Luxembourg and a 0–0 draw with Estonia.
Aleksandar Dimitrov has resigned as head coach of the Bulgaria national team after a disappointing run in the current Nations League campaign.
The decision came immediately following Bulgaria's 0:0 draw with Estonia, which followed a 1:2 defeat to Luxembourg that sealed a poor group outcome for Dimitrov's side.
“A very chaotic performance from our side. Our plan was not implemented. In the attacking phase, we failed to impose pressure in the play. That means we lost the players' confidence. With such play and such an appearance we finish the cycle. We thank the Bulgarian Football Union for the opportunity,” Dimitrov said at the press conference after the match with Estonia.
Ten matches in charge
Dimitrov led Bulgaria in ten games. His record during that spell was three wins, two draws and five defeats.
It has not yet been announced who will replace him; the national association will now begin the process of appointing a new head coach as the team closes this chapter and looks ahead to future fixtures.
