Aleksandar Jonchevski has been appointed head coach of Vllaznimi of Gjakovica, the club announced on August 10, 2026.
The experienced Macedonian coach, who previously led the North Macedonia national team, arrives with a lengthy résumé in regional and European club basketball.
Career and trophies
Vllaznimi described Jonchevski's background in a club statement: "Jonchevski brings to Gjakovica long-standing experience in international basketball. During his career he has been involved with teams such as MZT Skopje, Kozhuv, Gostivar, Rabotnicki (Macedonia), Spartak Subotica (Serbia), Śląsk Wrocław (Poland), Atomerőmű (Hungary), etc., while serving first as part of coaching staffs and later as head coach of the North Macedonia national team. With MZT, Jonchevski also won the Macedonian championship and Cup, enriching his career with trophies. It is worth noting that the coach also worked in Kosovo with Trepça."
The club did not disclose the length or financial terms of the contract but framed the hiring as part of its effort to strengthen the team's competitiveness in the domestic league.
Jonchevski is expected to take charge immediately and to begin preparations with the squad ahead of the new season.
The appointment continues a recent trend of clubs in the Balkans recruiting coaches with mixed club and national-team experience to boost short-term results.
