Aleksandar Tanevski named North Macedonia U21 head coach
The Football Federation of North Macedonia appointed Tanevski on September 9, 2026; several U21 qualifying matches remain this autumn.
At its board meeting on September 9, 2026, the Football Federation of North Macedonia (FFM) appointed Aleksandar Tanevski as the new head coach of the North Macedonia under-21 team.
Tanevski succeeds Goran Stanić, who left the role earlier this month; reports indicate Stanić was effectively dismissed while the current U21 qualifying campaign remains active, with several fixtures still to be played this autumn.
Coaching record and clubs
In his managerial career Tanevski has led a total of 196 official matches as head coach in the First and Second Macedonian football leagues. He began his senior coaching path at FK Skopje, guiding that club to promotion to the top tier.
He later achieved a similar promotion with FK Makedonija G.P., a club with which he also reached the Macedonian Cup final and secured participation in UEFA club competition. Tanevski has worked at Akademija Pandev, and his most recent club appointment was with FK Besa.
The Football Federation of North Macedonia signalled that it believes Tanevski is the right coach to take over this generation now and continue work with the squad in the coming period.
With qualifying matches still on the calendar this autumn, FFM and the team will move quickly to integrate the new coach ahead of the remaining fixtures.
