Alexander Zverev to become ATP world No. 1 from Monday, November 2, 2026
By reaching the Vienna quarterfinals with a 6:4, 7:5 win, Zverev will overtake Jannik Sinner and assume the top spot on the ATP rankings from Monday.

Alexander Zverev secured a place in the Vienna quarterfinals and, as a result, will become the world No. 1 on the ATP rankings from Monday, November 2, 2026. The German's progression in Vienna mathematically guarantees he will overtake Jannik Sinner at the top of the list.
Zverev, 29, beat Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in the round of 16 with scores of 6:4 and 7:5 to advance to the last eight in Vienna. That victory both kept his tournament hopes alive and delivered the career milestone of reaching the summit of the men’s tour.
Historic milestone for German tennis
When the rankings update on Monday, Zverev will become the 30th player in the ATP rankings era—dating back to 1973—to reach No. 1. He will also be only the second German to hold the top position, following Boris Becker, who first reached No. 1 in 1991.
The move represents a major personal achievement for Zverev and a notable moment for German tennis, closing a chapter that began with Becker’s era and placing Zverev among the select group of men who have led the tour.
With the Vienna result now secured, attention will shift to how long Zverev can remain at the summit and how the remaining ATP events this season will affect the rankings race.
