Alcaraz: The greatest of all time is Novak Djokovic
Ahead of the Laver Cup in London, Carlos Alcaraz praised Djokovic's records and called him the GOAT.
Carlos Alcaraz has publicly named Novak Djokovic the greatest player of all time, praising the Serbian’s record as he prepares to represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup in London.
Raised in a country where Rafael Nadal is treated like a tennis deity, Alcaraz said his childhood idols did not alter his assessment of who stands above all in the sport.
Alcaraz’s verdict and the numbers behind it
“For me, Rafa Nadal was someone I looked up to when I was young and growing up. But, you know, the greatest of all time, in terms of the numbers and everything he has done in tennis — he won everything, and not just once, but twice — is Djokovic,” Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz’s comment was framed as an expression of sporting maturity and admiration for Djokovic’s achievements. Djokovic currently holds 24 Grand Slam trophies, the most Masters titles with 40, and a record 428 weeks atop the ATP rankings. He is also cited as the only player in history to have won all four majors, all nine Masters tournaments and the ATP Finals at least twice.
Djokovic’s overall haul of 101 career titles also includes Olympic gold — a prize he took in Paris when he defeated Alcaraz — a fact Alcaraz acknowledged while speaking to reporters ahead of the London event.
