Ruben Amorim: Derby win calms pressure but challenges remain

Ruben Amorim expressed measured satisfaction after Milan beat Inter in the Derby della Madonnina on November 1, 2026, stressing that the victory should calm immediate pressure but will not erase the difficult moments that lie ahead for his squad.

"I am pleased with many things. We started very strongly. We knew that the opponent is dangerous in aerial duels, but we changed our approach and I think we showed progress compared to previous matches. In the second half we kept control of the ball and handled things very well, and Luka Modrić made a big contribution in that phase. It was not a perfect match, but this is an incredible evening for the supporters. For us it was extremely important to win after the disappointment on Wednesday and to move forward," Amorim said after the derby.

He underlined how the team managed the game in the second half and highlighted Modrić's role while refusing to overstate the victory.

Owner in the stands, ambitions for the Scudetto

Owner Jerry Cardinale watched the match live from the stands and has made no secret of his long-term ambitions to challenge for the Scudetto. Amorim echoed the need for patience and steady progress rather than instant transformation.

"The atmosphere is incredible, the passion is unique and completely different from any derby I have taken part in. I am extremely happy for the lads, and the fans will gain greater confidence in our project. There are many more great nights like this ahead of us, but there will also be hard moments, like against Bologna. That is part of the process. It is nice to win matches like this, to show that building a team takes time. It is impossible to change everything in one day. I am proud of my players, but my thoughts are already on the next match," Amorim said.

Turning to the club's longer-term goal, Amorim added: "We will be a very strong team, but that requires patience. As Mr Cardinale said, the ultimate goal is always the championship title. Realistically, however, winning the Scudetto in the first season will be extremely difficult. We will fight in every match, and the aim at the club base Milanello is to bring Milan back to the top. 'Top Gun' is a great film, but in the first part the loyal sidekick of the main character dies, so I prefer to focus on the second film..." he finished with a smile.
