Anes Melici after starting debut: "Goals will come soon"

Anes Melici made his first start for the North Macedonia national team in the friendly against Slovenia on September 29, 2026, and the 20-year-old Shkëndija centre-back believes the side will begin to score soon despite the defeat.
Melici was one of several changes to the XI and drew praise for his defensive presence, but the team ultimately lost after conceding goals that he described as avoidable.
Young defender keeps the focus on work
Reflecting on the match, Melici said: " We played well in the second half, but still conceded goals because of our mistakes. There were eight changes in the starting lineup compared with the last match. I think the goals will come soon, it just needs a bit of time," the defender said.
He added that rebuilding confidence and form will come through continued effort: "We must keep working. North Macedonia will be where it needs to be only through hard work."
The debut start for Melici underlines the coaching staff's willingness to try fresh options in defence as the national team looks to correct the lapses that cost them against Slovenia.
