England hit by injuries: five players ruled out, Tuchel names replacements

England coach Thomas Tuchel faces a late selection headache after five players were ruled out ahead of the national team's UEFA Nations League fixtures.
The injuries affect Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice, all of whom have been declared unavailable for the upcoming matches. The federation confirmed the absences on 21 September 2026.
Reinforcements called up
To cover the gaps, Tuchel has called up James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White. Both players are due to join the squad on Tuesday.
According to the national team announcement: "Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice have all been ruled of our forthcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White have subsequently been called up and will join up with the rest of the squad on Tuesday."
It was also reported that Morgan Gibbs-White cut short a holiday in Dubai to link up with the squad, while Garner joins from Everton. Tuchel must now finalise his match plans with the revised group ahead of the Nations League games.
