Antonio Nejkov, 20, a singer from Strumica who has been living in Germany for five years, captured all seven judges' votes on the talent show Zvezde Granda after a performance of the song "Srce piše suzama." The young artist told cameras that he both studies and works in Germany as a medical technician for elder care, but dreams of making a full-time career out of music.
Choice of mentor and musical roots
After the unanimous support on stage, Nejkov had the privilege to pick his mentor and chose Dragan Kojić – Keba, explaining that he constantly listens to Keba's music while living in Germany and especially likes the lyrics of the song he performed.
On stage Keba praised the youngster's interpretation, telling him: "That is one of the best lyrics I have written, and you performed it so well that I honestly take my hat off to you!"
Nejkov described his life in Germany plainly: "I live and study in Germany to become a medical technician. Still, honestly I would like one day to make my living entirely from music, so we'll see what the future brings." He added that his natural hairstyle and charm have attracted attention, and that he accepted the comparison to young football star Lamine Yamal with a smile.
When asked how girls react to his look, he answered briefly and with a smile: "They like it!"
Rock singer Goran David reminded Nejkov of Strumica's winning tradition on talent shows, saying: "Strumica is a town that already has winners on 'It's Never Too Late' and on 'Zvezde Granda', so a nice red carpet awaits you as a boy coming from there." With his combination of voice and presence, Nejkov is positioned for a strong run in the competition and has given viewers from North Macedonia an extra reason to follow the season.
