Appellate Court reduces Muhamed Zekiri’s sentence to 19 months
Appellate Court found consultancy contracts for Macedonian Post and Macedonian Railways were concluded without proper public procurement procedure.

The Appellate Court in Skopje reduced the prison sentence of Muhamed Zekiri to 19 months. Previously, Zekiri had been sentenced by the Criminal Court to 2.5 years in prison.
Appellate panel reviewed files, evidence and prosecutor's proposal
According to the appellate ruling, the court examined the case file, the lower court’s verdict, the lodged appeals, the proposal submitted by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office Skopje and the evidence presented at the public hearing.
The court found that the accused entered into consultancy contracts related to "analysis of the situation and possibilities for the privatization" of Macedonian Post and Macedonian Railways without carrying out the appropriate public procurement procedure.
Because of these findings the Appellate Court revised the sanction imposed by the Criminal Court and set the sentence at 19 months’ imprisonment.
The Appellate Court’s decision is not final under statutory provisions; the defendant has the right to file an appeal with the Supreme Court.
