Messi to play final Argentina match on October 6
The Argentine Football Association announced a roster for three friendly matches to be played on home soil between 21 September and 6 October. These will be the national team’s first appearances following the World Cup this summer.
According to the announcement, Argentina will face Benin at the Monumental in Buenos Aires on 6 October, and that fixture will serve as Messi’s last game for the national side. Lionel Messi is listed among the selected players to ensure he can take part in the farewell match.
Messi had already publicly stated after the World Cup that he would retire from international football, and the federation’s scheduling gives him an opportunity to say goodbye on home turf.
The inclusion of Messi on the squad list was confirmed in the official roster release. The federation described the home series as an opportunity to reconnect the team with local supporters and close the chapter on a storied international career.
