Armand Duplantis will not compete at the European Indoor Championships in Valencia
Duplantis will miss the Valencia indoor meet and the whole winter season to rest and prepare for the 2027 outdoor campaign.
Swedish pole vault world record holder Armand Duplantis will not take part in the European Indoor Championships in Valencia in March 2027, the athlete announced on 3 October 2026.
Duplantis said he has decided to skip the entire indoor season in order to rest and concentrate on preparations for the outdoor campaign in 2027.
Reasoning and recent form
The decision follows an exceptionally busy and successful season in which Duplantis improved his own world record to 6.31 metres. He explained that an extended recovery period is necessary after a demanding competition schedule.
By foregoing indoor competitions, Duplantis aims to enter the 2027 outdoor season refreshed and fully prepared for key meets.
The announcement ends speculation about his appearance at the Valencia indoor meet and confirms that his focus will be on events held outdoors next year.
