Arsenal consider Álex Baena from Atlético — Arteta may pursue him in January

Arsenal are weighing up a move for Álex Baena from Atlético Madrid ahead of the January transfer window after injury problems have thinned their attacking options.

Arteta searching for forward reinforcements

Manager Mikel Arteta has been looking for extra firepower, particularly given injuries to Christos Tzolis and lingering uncertainty around Bukayo Saka. At the moment there is no confirmation of a formal bid, and Atlético would be unlikely to let a key player leave in the middle of the season.

Baena is versatile — able to operate on the left flank or in a more creative midfield position — and his numbers have underlined his appeal: this season he has contributed six goals and four assists for Atlético and the Spain national team.

Arsenal also chased attacking reinforcements during the summer window, and Baena has emerged as one of the options for a January acquisition. Manchester City are reportedly among other clubs monitoring the situation.

Whether Arsenal make an approach will depend on the recovery of their injured players and Atlético’s willingness to negotiate, as well as any price the London club would be prepared to pay.
