Arsenal target Jules Koundé as late-window defensive priority
Arsenal have reportedly made Jules Koundé a top summer target as Mikel Arteta looks to reinforce his defence ahead of the Champions League push.

Dated 13.08.2026, Arsenal have entered the market with a clear defensive target: Barcelona centre-back Jules Koundé.
After ending a more-than-20-year wait to lift the Premier League title last season, Mikel Arteta has set a new objective — to win the Champions League — and has urged the club to strengthen the squad. Arsenal’s hierarchy responded with summer spending and further reinforcements are reportedly under consideration as the new campaign approaches.
Why Koundé fits the brief
The Gunners are said to be looking for a centre-back who can also cover at right-back when needed, and Koundé is high on the wishlist. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has placed the French international at the top of Arsenal’s list of defensive options.
According to the reports, Arsenal have already opened discussions with Koundé’s representatives, though there have been no talks yet with Barcelona’s officials. The 27-year-old remains a priority for Arteta and the club, who hope for a late-window breakthrough.
Financially, Arsenal are expected to bid roughly around €60 million for Koundé if negotiations progress. The club will try to conclude a deal before the transfer window closes and add the defensive profile they believe can push them beyond last season’s narrow Champions League defeat to PSG.
