Flight from Dublin to Rome diverted to Évreux military base after bomb threat

On 5 November 2026 an Airbus A320 operating the Dublin–Rome service was diverted to the French military airbase at Évreux in Normandy after authorities received a bomb threat, the office of French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said.

The prime minister’s cabinet said the flight had been redirected and that the situation was being followed "in real time" and "in accordance with established procedures", adding that authorities were managing the response.

No figures were released on how many people were on board or on the operational measures under way. Flight‑tracking websites indicated the aircraft belongs to the Irish carrier Aer Lingus.

Wider pattern of false threats across Europe

The diversion came after a wave of anonymous bomb alerts on Tuesday that affected roughly ten commercial flights across Europe. Several carriers, including Ryanair, SAS, LOT and Wizz Air, reported false threats that prompted security checks, diversions and short‑term airport closures.

At Rome’s Fiumicino airport two Ryanair aircraft were inspected following anonymous warnings, while a LOT flight that had departed London‑Heathrow was diverted from Warsaw Chopin to Warsaw Modlin. In Bulgaria two inbound planes were examined on arrival in Sofia, and a Wizz Air service from London Luton to Sofia was forced to land in Budapest escorted by two Hungarian fighter jets after a similar alert.

French authorities said they were coordinating their response with aviation and security services. Investigations into the origin of the threats and the circumstances of the Évreux diversion are ongoing, and officials have not released further details.
