At least 25 people were killed and 44 others were injured after a passenger bus on July 31, 2026, veered off the road, overturned and fell into a ravine in Algeria.

The accident occurred on National Road No. 24 in Boumerdes Province. The bus had been arriving from Setif Province when it left the carriageway, overturned and fell into the ravine.

Rescue operation

Rescue teams continue to work at the scene to recover the victims and transfer the injured to nearby hospitals. Teams are searching the wreckage and extracting people trapped in the vehicle.

The Civil Protection Service reported that it sent two rescue vehicles and 11 ambulances to the scene. Authorities warned that the death toll may rise as the rescue operation continues.

Local authorities did not provide an immediate explanation for the cause of the accident. Investigators and emergency teams remain on site while hospitals care for the injured and families of the victims are being notified.
