Just a short drive from the Serbian city of Niš lies a little-known natural spa called Vidrishte, in the village of Miljkovac. The spring is fed by several sources of water that flow at temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius and has become a low-profile destination for visitors seeking rest, relief and a non-commercial spa experience about 240 kilometres from Skopje.

Local people and guests attribute a range of health benefits to the spring: relief for bone and joint pain, help with arthritis and rheumatic conditions, improvements in circulation and skin, and even calming effects on nerves and mental stress. The story most often told about the spring’s discovery involves a miller who, after repeatedly bathing there, regained the ability to walk following a long period of limited mobility.

Simple facilities, growing reputation

Vidrishte is not a formal resort. The pool sits on the remains of an old mill and villagers have improvised a roof over part of it and a changing area so bathing can take place year‑round. The water is described as mountain‑clear and unprocessed, and that rustic atmosphere is exactly what draws people who want to be close to nature rather than to concrete and crowds.
