The visitors opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Ronald Araújo headed home from a Kostas Tsimikas corner. Two minutes later Bradley Barcola doubled the advantage following a well-worked move involving Rio Ngumoa and an assist from Luis Kumas.

Barcola struck again in the 37th minute, converting an excellent pass from Florian Wirtz to make it 3–0 at half-time. Early in the second half Jeremy Frimpong nodded in Liverpool’s fourth on 51 minutes, and although LASK pulled one back through Robert Ljubičić in the 63rd minute, Barcola completed his hat-trick in the 66th after an assist from Frimpong.

Luis Kumas added a sixth for Liverpool in the 72nd minute, but LASK fought back late through Florian Flecker, who scored twice in the 74th and 77th minutes to reduce the deficit to 6–3.

In Rotterdam, Feyenoord claimed their first Champions League victory of the season, coming from behind to beat Como 3–2.
