Barcelona to leave Camp Nou again during roof works

Barcelona will temporarily move its home matches away from Camp Nou again while the stadium’s roof works are completed. The club plans to play part of the 2027/28 season at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium as finishing works on the roof are scheduled between October and November 2027.

Club officials expect a phased return to Camp Nou in January 2028 with an initial capacity of about 95,000 spectators. After final completion, the stadium’s capacity is projected to reach approximately 105,000 seats.

Stadium timeline and major events

Camp Nou is slated to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, and Barcelona says the renovations will provide substantially more space and commercial opportunities in advance of that event. The club views the completed stadium as a key engine for its wider finances.

Barcelona’s vice‑president Ferran Oliv (68) outlined revenue expectations linked to the finished venue, forecasting annual income of up to €450 million. That figure rose from earlier projections of between €350 million and €375 million, and includes income beyond ticket sales—sponsorships and increased retail revenue are expected to contribute significantly. Oliv also noted that roughly 9,500 VIP seats are almost completely sold out.

However, the project carries a heavy price tag. Total costs for the stadium renovation now stand at about €1.8 billion. Because of delays, changes and scope increases, Barcelona recently approved an additional €510 million in financing. The club has a longer-term revenue target of more than €1.45 billion for the 2030/31 season.

For the coming months, supporters should expect home fixtures to take place at Montjuïc while works continue on Camp Nou’s roof and surrounding infrastructure.
