Barcelona's pursuit of Lautaro Martinez stalled after Inter's firm refusal

Barcelona have again been linked with a move for Lautaro Martinez, but Inter Milan has made it clear the Argentine striker will not be leaving Camp Nou's prospective suitors anything to hope for this summer.

Giuseppe Marotta shuts the door

Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta publicly responded to recurring transfer speculation with a blunt refusal. He underlined the club’s stance in unambiguous terms: "Lautaro is our captain and part of our history. There are absolutely no conditions under which we would sell Lautaro Martinez," Marotta said.

Marotta went further and left little room for negotiation, adding: "There should be no talk of his leaving this summer." His comments signal that Inter does not intend to engage with offers for the forward before the transfer window closes.

Martinez has been one of Inter’s key players for years. In recent months he has been handed the captain’s armband and is described by the club as a central pillar of the dressing room and the sporting project.

For Barcelona, Marotta’s stance is a significant setback if Martinez was among their principal targets. The Catalans will need to redirect their search for a top striker elsewhere — names frequently linked to Barcelona include Julián Álvarez, described in some reports as Atletico Madrid’s forward, but that move also appears complicated by the player's existing commitments.

Inter view Martinez as irreplaceable this season and expect him to lead their attack in the upcoming campaign. Barcelona must now pursue alternative options before the transfer window shuts.
