Barcelona vs Real Madrid: El Clásico could make history
After a 5–2 victory at Betis and 11 wins in 11 matches, Barcelona will host Real Madrid at Camp Nou with a chance to claim a La Liga record.
On October 17, 2026 Barcelona extended an extraordinary start to the season by beating Betis 5:2 in Seville in the ninth round of La Liga. The victory marked Barcelona's 11th win in as many matches across all competitions.
With nine league wins, Barcelona have matched the best opening in La Liga history — a mark Real Madrid set in the 1961/62 and 1968/69 seasons. The Catalans have the chance to claim that record outright in exactly seven days when they host Real Madrid at Camp Nou.
Yamal starring amid record talk
Lamine Yamal led the charge in Seville, opening the scoring with a spectacular strike in the 10th minute and later providing an assist for Gabriel Jesus. After the match, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick made clear how highly he rates the teenager.
"For me, he is currently the best player in the world. He is under huge pressure, he is only 19 years old, but he is completely focused and dedicated to everything," said the German coach.
In 11 appearances in all competitions this season, Yamal has scored nine goals and supplied nine assists.
Before the El Clásico, Barcelona expect another major test at Camp Nou: in two days they will host European champion Paris Saint-Germain in the third round of the UEFA Champions League.
