Benjamin Sesko to miss Slovenia's match in Skopje on November 16

Benjamin Sesko will not be available for Slovenia’s Nations League match in Skopje on November 16, and Manchester United now expects the forward to remain sidelined until at least January 2027 because of a calf injury.

Sesko also missed the previous international window, and the club’s medical staff are still working on a recovery plan aimed at preventing a recurrence of the problem.

He last played on 16 September, when he started United’s League Cup match against Brighton that ended in defeat. A week after that game Manchester United announced Sesko would undergo additional tests to define the pathway for his rehabilitation.

Medical outlook and recovery timeline

The injury has been healing during the break from competition, but the club judges the recovery incomplete. Even after fitness for training is regained, Sesko will require further time to reach the competitive level needed for matches.

This calf problem is not new: Sesko struggled with the same issue last season and carried on playing despite pain after a blow to the calf, at a time when Manchester United were pursuing Champions League qualification and he insisted on continuing.

Slovenia will therefore have to plan for the Nations League fixture without their most prominent striker, while Manchester United prioritise a treatment and rehabilitation strategy that minimises the risk of re-injury.
