Betis defeat Mourinho's Real Madrid 1-0 in Seville as Mbappé misses late penalty
Parot scored in the 81st minute, Espi’s strike was overturned by VAR and Mbappé missed a stoppage-time penalty.

Betis shocked Mourinho's Real Madrid in Seville on September 4, 2026, claiming a 1:0 victory that ended Real's perfect start to the season and marked the first defeat for José Mourinho in his second spell at the club.
Late drama at La Cartuja
The decisive moment arrived in the 81st minute when Parot put Betis ahead with a close-range finish that settled the contest. The home crowd erupted as Betis took the lead on their own turf at La Cartuja.
Real thought they had levelled through Espi in the 88th minute, but the leveller was wiped out after a VAR review found an offside in the build-up.
A penalty was awarded to Real deep in stoppage time (reported as 90+2/90+4). Kylian Mbappé stepped up to take responsibility but failed to beat the Betis goalkeeper from the spot.
Mbappé had already missed two clear chances earlier in the match, including two one-on-one opportunities, and his late miss sealed a dramatic night for the visitors.
Betis celebrated a major victory over one of Europe’s favourites, while elsewhere in England Isak netted twice in three minutes to decide Ipswich's game earlier the same evening.
