From today the cameras of the "Safe City" system will begin recording traffic offences in the area covered by the Sector for Internal Affairs Veles’s neighbouring unit in Ohrid — covering the towns of Ohrid, Struga, Kichevo and Debar.

Data from Veles after launch

Less than a month earlier the system started operating in the Veles police sector. "Since the introduction of 'Safe City' in the area of the Sector for Internal Affairs Veles on September 12, until October 5, 1,518 violations have been recorded," said the Sector for Internal Affairs Veles.

Those figures amount to an average of 63 violations per day over a 24-day period. The statistics refer to the towns of Veles, Kavadarci, Negotino and Demir Kapija and to part of the motorway between Veles and Demir Kapija.

The rollout in Ohrid and the surrounding municipalities expands the camera network that documents traffic offences automatically; the authorities say the system now covers multiple police districts in the central and southwestern part of the country.

Police have not yet published a detailed breakdown by type of offence or by the precise locations of the new cameras in the Ohrid area.
