Blagoja Grujovski celebrates 64th birthday; fans say he looks decades younger

Veteran folk singer and long-time journalist Blagoja Grujovski celebrated his 64th birthday this week, sharing a photo with a birthday cake on social media and thanking friends, colleagues and fans for their messages.

"Dear friends, I thank you from the heart for the numerous messages and congratulations," wrote Blagoja after the outpouring of greetings.

From radio newsrooms to the folk stage

Born in Skopje in 1962, Grujovski has been a visible presence on the Macedonian music scene for more than three decades. Although he trained and worked as a journalist — spending many years in the newsrooms of Macedonian Radio — music was always part of his life: he played saxophone in several ensembles before his singing career took off.

His entry to the spotlight came in 1993 at the Cvetnici festival, when he recorded the timeless hit "Tuǵino jabano"; another enduring song in his repertoire is "Jano Janike." Over the years his performances and recordings, often themed around love and tradition, have secured him a steady following.

Fans and commentators frequently note his youthful appearance and energetic stage presence, dubbing him the "Macedonian Dorian Gray." Now in his seventh decade, Grujovski continues to perform and to be celebrated for his charisma and dedication to folk music.
