Boban from Avalon recalls Miso Kovač and dedicates post to late brother and father

Boban Milosheski of Avalon published an emotional tribute recalling a 1995 Skopje concert and dedicated the post to his late brother and their father as the region mourns the death of Miso Kovač.

Unexpected backup, no rehearsal — and a show that went on

In his message, Boban recounts how fog and a closed airport prevented Miso’s band from reaching Skopje on the day of the scheduled concert. Faced with a possible cancellation, Kovač insisted on performing: "Tonight I go on stage alone.. and nothing will stop me!"

According to Boban’s recollection, producer Brane Majka quickly improvised: he recruited the cult band Koda and singer Dragan Vučić to back Miso with no rehearsal. Vučić reportedly agreed for a fee of 1,400 marks, and the improvised lineup delivered a show the audience did not notice had been patched together.

Boban also remembered that the performance had been recorded by A1, but lamented that the footage was later lost: "A1 filmed it… I’m very sorry the recording went — together with A1." He praised Kovač’s presence on stage, saying the audience felt nothing amiss and that Miso’s voice and character carried the evening.

The post takes on a more personal tone when Boban dedicates it to his late brother Danche and to his father Gago, who had been an ardent fan of Kovač. Boban recalled his father telling him: "Bobe, one day you'll understand that Miso is more of a rocker than many of your rockers," and admitted his father had been right.

Miso Kovač, the legendary Croatian singer, died at the age of 85 at his home in Split, leaving behind decades of hits and a legacy that resonated across the region from Vardar to Triglav.
