Bournemouth sign Antonio Silva for A322 million

Bournemouth have completed the signing of 22-year-old defender Antonio Silva from Benfica, the club announced as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season.

The transfer fee is reported at A322 million, with a further A35 million available in potential add-ons, and Silva has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

Role and background

Silva arrives with substantial experience for his age: he has made just under 200 appearances for Benfica across recent seasons and is widely regarded as a technically accomplished centre-back.

Bournemouth's acquisition is intended to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new campaign, with the club banking on Silvas potential to adapt quickly to English football.

Despite his club form, Silva did not receive a call-up for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada this summer, a notable omission as he makes the move to the Premier League.

The transfer marks one of Bournemouth's more significant signings of the summer as they look to consolidate their position in the top flight.
