Brighton 3–0 Arsenal: champions suffer heavy defeat

Brighton produced a commanding 3-0 victory over English champions Arsenal at the Amex Stadium on September 19, 2026, handing the Gunners their first defeat after four straight opening wins.

Pascal Groß opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a long-range strike. Charalampos Kostoulas doubled the lead shortly before half-time, and Chema Andres sealed the win in the 57th minute as Brighton celebrated a convincing home result.

This was Arsenal’s first loss by a three-goal margin in any competition since May 2023, when they also fell 0-3 to Brighton. The defeat ended Arsenal’s run of consecutive victories at the start of the Premier League season and left the champions empty-handed for the first time.

Brighton dominance and quickfire moments

Brighton controlled large periods of the match, turning pressure into goals at key moments and leaving Arsenal unable to respond. The home crowd were rewarded with a performance that combined clinical finishing and solid defensive organisation.

In other Premier League action, Hull City suffered a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle. The hosts struck twice inside the opening seven minutes; Mohamed-Ali Cho reduced the deficit for Hull in the 67th minute but the visitors could not recover. Everton edged Ipswich 1-0 thanks to an early goal by Bery in the first half.

The evening left Brighton celebrating a statement win, while Arsenal, Hull City and Ipswich must regroup as the league schedule intensifies.
