Brazil rescued a late 1-1 draw with Australia in a friendly match played on September 25, 2026, on Australian soil, after a dramatic finish that cancelled out an earlier setback for the visitors.
The Selecao looked vulnerable for long stretches and conceded a superbly taken free kick, but they kept their composure until the very end. An attempted opener by Estevão — set up after a double pass from Endrick — was ruled out by VAR because of a foul on Bruno Guimarães at the start of the move.
Turning points and substitutions
Australia were the better side for much of the match, carving out clear chances and putting Brazil under pressure. Rafinha and Estevão had the clearest opportunities while the score remained 0-0, but it was the home side who struck first.
In the 28th minute of the second half, young Sporting talent Nestor Irankunda produced a wonderful free kick that beat the Brazilian goalkeeper and put Australia ahead.
Carlo Ancelotti responded by altering the attack and introducing Samuel Lino, Pedro and Ryan. Brazil increased their pressure as the Australians defended their lead, searching for an equaliser.
The visitors’ persistence paid off in the final moments: in the 49th minute of the second half Ryan rose to meet a corner and headed the ball into the net to level the score at 1-1.
