Brandon Nakashima pulled off a dramatic comeback in Cincinnati, defeating Daniil Medvedev 6:7 (3), 7:6 (4), 6:1 on August 19, 2026.
Medvedev held three consecutive match points on Nakashima's serve at 5-4 in the second set, but the American escaped the danger, turned the momentum and dominated the decider.
Turning the match around
The final set was one-sided in Nakashima's favour; he closed it 6:1 after a contest that lasted two hours and 51 minutes. The victory extends Nakashima's strong run on the North American swing.
Last week the 23-year-old from the United States reached his first Masters 1000 final in Montreal; now he has advanced to the fourth round in Cincinnati where he will meet Nuno Borges.
Borges booked his place in the next round by beating Andrey Rublev 6:3, 6:4.
Also advancing was Felix Auger-Aliassime, who defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo 7:5, 6:1. Auger-Aliassime is scheduled to face Frances Tiafoe, who prevailed over Lerner Tien 6:4, 4:6, 6:4.
