Brentford have completed the signing of 24-year-old Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangare from Lens, the club confirmed on 1 August 2026.
Long-term contract and club-record fee
Sangare has signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2031, with an option to extend for one additional season. The deal marks a significant long-term investment by Brentford in their midfield options.
Insider Fabrizio Romano reported the transfer fee at £41 million, which constitutes a new transfer record for Brentford.
Last season, Sangare made 29 appearances for Lens in Ligue 1, scoring 3 goals, providing 4 assists and receiving 5 yellow cards. The 24-year-old arrives with experience from France's top division and is expected to add dynamism to Brentford's centre of the park.
The move completes Brentford's pursuit of a young, technically gifted midfielder and represents the club's largest outgoing payment to date as they prepare for the new campaign.
