RB Leipzig fans criticise new stadium catering over sausages and portions

Fans at RB Leipzig matches have raised an unusual but persistent complaint this season: the stadium food after the club switched caterers. After 12 years with a local provider the club signed a six-year contract with the American giant Levy, which already serves stadiums used by Tottenham and Ajax. The move aimed to speed up service and modernize offerings, but matchday reality provoked wide dissatisfaction.

Supporters flooded social media with reports that the iconic German stadium sausage had deteriorated: many said the sausages tasted poor and were too small. Complaints also targeted fries that arrived inconsistently cooked and bread rolls that did not suit the sandwiches on offer. At the same time, prices rose noticeably while portion sizes shrank, and long queues formed because of chaotic organization and a reduced menu.

Markus, a representative of one of the club’s largest supporter groups, summed up the frustration. He noted that the old catering partner had offered fair prices, regular portion sizes, and a broader selection — even vegan options and pizza — and said it is hard to understand why the club changed providers.

Club response and promised fixes

During the international break RB Leipzig issued a statement acknowledging that the current matchday catering had not met the club’s standards and saying it took fan feedback from surveys very seriously. The club pledged concrete adjustments to the sausages, rolls, pretzels and to portion sizes.

Leipzig then hosted Eintracht Frankfurt and won 6:0 at home; reports from that match indicated that some of the catering problems had been corrected. For now, however, the episode remains a reminder that even small stadium comforts — from the food on offer to how it is served — can affect supporter satisfaction as much as results on the pitch.
