Customs seized €64,000 — Greek national carried over €120,000, reported only about half

Customs officers seized €64,000 during a border check after an inspection found that a Greek national was carrying more than €120,000 but had reported only about half, officials announced on 31 July 2026.

After the discovery, a discretionary control and partial seizure followed while the necessary examinations are completed to determine whether reporting rules were violated and what legal consequences may follow.

Other amounts discovered

In another case, two dentists were found to be in possession of €65,280 and 29,840 Swiss francs. These findings are also subject to further checks and potential legal proceedings.

Customs is proceeding according to established procedures for handling undeclared or partially declared money and is cooperating with other state institutions to determine the origin of the funds.

Investigations continue and the authorities announced they will inform the public after the checks are completed and decisions are made regarding the specific cases.
