Celje sign 16-year-old Luka Georgiev

NK Celje confirmed on 28 August 2026 that it has signed Luka Georgiev, a 16-year-old midfielder born in North Macedonia who has been living with his parents in Slovenia. The move was announced two days after the transfer actually took place.

Georgiev joins Celje from Primorje, where he made his most recent appearances at youth level. Club officials described him as one of the country’s top young prospects and said the transfer is part of Celje’s continued focus on recruiting and developing emerging talent.

What the switch means

At just 16, Georgiev is considered an advanced talent for his age. He plays centrally as a midfielder and has already represented Slovenia in youth selections, wearing the national jersey for the country’s junior teams while residing with his family in Slovenia.

Although Georgiev is currently involved in Slovenia’s youth setup, his origins mean he remains eligible to represent North Macedonia at senior level. According to the club announcement, there are still opportunities for him to choose Macedonia for his future international career.

The signing comes a day after Celje’s elimination by Slovan Bratislava and the missed chance to reach the Champions League group stage. For Celje, adding a promising youngster is another step in sustaining the squad that has dominated the Slovenian championship in recent seasons.
