The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon and Greek police immediately opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Investigators detained the boy’s parents and the owner of the complex as part of the initial inquiry. Prosecutors and police are examining the timeline of events and the actions of staff present at the facility.
The owner of the property has been registered with local authorities as the lifeguard responsible for the pool, and investigators are checking whether he was on duty when the accident occurred.
Rescue attempt and medical care
According to preliminary information, guests at the complex noticed the child in the water and alerted staff. An employee pulled the boy from the pool and began resuscitation efforts on site.
The child was transported to the island’s health facility, where medical teams continued lifesaving measures, but doctors were unable to revive him.
The parents were later released from custody, while the owner is expected to be presented to the competent prosecutor in Syros. The investigation is ongoing as Greek authorities work to establish who was responsible for supervising the pool and whether applicable safety regulations were followed.
