Four detained in connection with two killings in Gjorche Petrov; short detention requested

Four people have been detained in connection with two recent killings of elderly residents in the Gjorche Petrov municipality of Skopje, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.

The ministry identified the suspects only by initials and age as A. S. (22), H. E. (20), K. A. (58) from Skopje and M. R. (26) from Strumica. They are suspected of the crime of robbery with fatal consequences.

“In coordination and following orders issued by the Skopje Public Prosecutor's Office, and with the aim of completing the full body of evidence for further proceedings, short-term detention has been requested for the persons in accordance with Article 170 in conjunction with Article 165 of the Criminal Procedure Code, after which an appropriate criminal complaint will be filed,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The arrests relate to two violent deaths discovered within five days in Gjorche Petrov. In the first incident, on October 22, a 62-year-old man was found dead in his home and a doctor recorded signs of violence. The ministry later reported the death of a 76-year-old woman, also found in her home, where visible signs of violence were noted.

Authorities say the detentions and the request for short-term custody are part of efforts to complete the evidentiary record before charges are formally filed. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje will lead the next phase of the criminal proceedings.
