Čupić: Vardar must give fans a win in final home Champions League game

Vardar held a press conference today to preview their final group-stage match of the EHF Champions League at home, a meeting with the German side Melsungen. The game is scheduled for Wednesday in Jane Sandanski Hall with a 18:45 start.

Coach sets clear target

Coach Ivan Čupić said the team arrives motivated after the recent away victory over Nantes and determined to give the supporters a proper send-off in the competition. He stressed the importance of ending the home Champions League programme on a positive note.

“Unfortunately, the Champions League waits one last match. Melsungen will come to Skopje to secure qualification for the main phase. After two home defeats this year our pride is wounded — both ours and the supporters' — and precisely they deserve to finish the Champions League season with a victory. We have played five matches like a final, so Melsungen will arrive in Skopje to fight for a place in the Top 12 phase. On the other hand, we must show in this match that the Jane Sandanski hall will remain an impregnable fortress, also in the upcoming EHF European League games,” Čupić said.

The coach underlined that Melsungen’s visit has clear stakes — they will be looking to clinch a spot in the competition’s main phase — and added that Vardar must respond at home after two domestic setbacks earlier in the season.

Vardar will now prepare for the Wednesday fixture in front of their fans, aiming to turn Jane Sandanski Hall into a stronghold for the rest of the club’s European campaign.
