Guardians of the Homeland hold student pre-election gatherings in Belgrade, Zaječar and Kikinda

Student pre-election gatherings organized by the group Guardians of the Homeland took place this afternoon in several Serbian cities, with events reported at the Vuk Monument in Belgrade and parallel meetings in Zaječar and Kikinda.

Main topics discussed

Organizers and participants said the meetings focused on protection of land, the state of education and the future of rural communities. In Kikinda and Zaječar, cyclists and runners joined the rallies to show support for the Student List.

Speakers highlighted concerns over access to textbooks and the sustainability of village life. “We will talk about how we can protect land and education, and about what kind of education we leave to future generations. We will also ask why it is a problem for all students to receive free textbooks. Agriculture will be another topic — one of the professors will speak about it — because our villages are on the verge of survival,” said Dejan, a student at the Faculty of Agriculture.

Organizers described the gatherings as part of a broader pre-election outreach to young voters, combining short presentations with visible public activity such as bicycle and running groups. Local students and activists attended in mixed numbers at the different locations.

Event coordinators said further meetings with a similar agenda are planned in other towns, aiming to bring attention to rural depopulation and to press for measures that would ease life and study conditions for students across Serbia.
