CCM: 26 wildfires registered — two still active, 20 extinguished

Authorities recorded 26 separate wildfires across the country, and as of 7:30 a.m. this morning two remained active while four were contained and 20 were fully extinguished, the Center for Crisis Management (CCM) reported.

One of the active blazes is burning in the Municipality of Saraj between the villages of Kopanica and Raduša, where low-stem forest and low vegetation are affected. A second active fire is in the area of Shtip municipality between the villages of Selce, Puhche, Stepanci and Lakavica and is consuming low vegetation.

Fires under control and extinguished

Four fires have been brought under control: the blaze in the area between the villages of Bitovo, Zagrad and Strajane in the Municipality of Makedonski Brod — which involved low-stem forest, low vegetation, pastures and fern — as well as fires in the village of Dragov Dol (Makedonski Brod), above the village of Paligrad (Zelenikovo municipality), and at the city landfill in Delchevo.

CCM added that 20 fires were completely put out in several municipalities; those incidents affected low vegetation, shrubs, pine and mixed forest, stubble and garbage.

Firefighters and local services continue to monitor the remaining hotspots and maintain containment lines where fires are under control. Investigations into the causes of the separate outbreaks have not been announced.

The CCM statement provides the latest consolidated tally and the locations of the most significant ongoing and contained incidents as emergency teams keep working to prevent further spread.
