Damjan Stojanovski calls for warm arenas as MTEL Super League opens
MZT Skopje Aerodrom captain says clubs must provide proper conditions as the season opens with MZT vs Kumanovo on October 2, 2026 at 19:00.

The new MTEL Super League season opens on October 2, 2026, with the defending champions MZT Skopje Aerodrom meeting Kumanovo at the Jane Sandanski Sports Center. The game is scheduled to start at 19:00, and the club captain used the occasion to raise a long-standing problem in domestic basketball: the lack of heated halls for training and competition.
Warm arenas as a priority
“From the new season in the MTEL Super League, I expect to play in warm arenas,” said Damjan Stojanovski, captain of MZT Skopje Aerodrom. He pointed out that while warm indoor facilities are taken for granted in other countries, North Macedonian clubs still struggle to provide proper conditions for professional practice and matches.
Stojanovski also stressed that the team’s ambitions remain unchanged despite the off-court concerns. “The ambitions of MZT Skopje Aerodrom are always the same, the highest. As every year, both in the domestic championship and in the ABA 2 League, and this year also a better placement in the FIBA EuroCup. Our greatest weapon in the season ahead, I think, will be team play and energy.”
The statement comes on the day MZT Skopje defends its title and kicks off a calendar that again blends domestic competition with regional and European assignments.
In a related note, supporters known as the “Tartan Army” are reported to be arriving in Skopje with a contingent of 4,000 fans, adding extra atmosphere to the opening period of the season.
