Max Dauman brace sends Arsenal through; Szoboszlai sparks Liverpool 3:1 win
Max Dauman scored a brace as Arsenal beat Ipswich 4:2 in the League Cup; Dominik Szoboszlai’s late strike sealed Liverpool’s 3:1 victory over Tottenham.
Arsenal advanced to the League Cup last 16 with a 4:2 victory at Ipswich, while Liverpool beat Tottenham 3:1 at Anfield in another lively midweek tie.
At Portman Road Arsenal took control early. The visitors were handed the lead by 16-year-old Max Dauman, who finished smartly after an assist from Eze. Noni Madueke then capitalised on a goalkeeper error to make it 2:0.
Shortly after the restart Dauman struck again, this time after a pass from Zubimendi, and later Mikel Merino added a superb long-range finish in the 58th minute to make it 4:0. Ipswich pulled two goals back — Mehmedi reduced the deficit four minutes later and Sam Akpom set the final 4:2 late on.
Szoboszlai seals victory at Anfield
At Anfield Liverpool took the lead in the 21st minute when Alexis Mac Allister found the net after a well-timed run. Early in the second half a swift move ended with Cody Gakpo slotting home to double the advantage.
Tottenham responded in the 69th minute from a set piece when a corner and subsequent delivery by Fernandes met Conor Gallagher, who pulled one back to make it 2:1. Liverpool restored control when Dominik Szoboszlai produced a spectacular strike to make it 3:1 and secure the win.
